2026 Ripple of Kindness Honoree
On January 19, 2012, Matt and Sara were overjoyed to welcome their first daughter, Olivia, to the world. Born with Congenital Muscular Dystrophy, Olivia made it her superpower. During her 10 years on earth, she tackled challenges head-on, leaving a trail of inspiration wherever she went
Despite her young age, she accomplished a lifetime of work and service, locally, nationally, and globally, infusing every moment with joy and determination. She was a fearless and tireless advocate for accessibility and inclusion, championing inclusive playgrounds throughout Kansas City and beyond, because, in her words, ‘Everybody deserves a chance to play.’
In 2021, with her drive and passion for inclusivity, Olivia was honored to be named the first esteemed Student Design Competition Champion for JANUS et Cie. Global Playground Design. This recognition showcased her creativity and vision, proving that age is no barrier to making a difference. Widely known and respected for her activism and leadership around inclusivity, Olivia was the youngest recipient ever to receive the KC Independent’s Rising Stars award in 2022 for her work in the community and school district. Olivia passed away in July of 2022, and the Olivia Bloomfield Foundation (OBF) was founded at that time.
The Olivia Bloomfield Foundation strives to continue Olivia’s legacy with the same enthusiasm and determination that defined her. The Foundation is dedicated to funding projects that bring joy and accessibility to individuals with disabilities. Since inception, OBF has touched numerous lives in the Kansas City community through: Olivia’s Big Splash, an annual partnership with Schloegel Design Remodel to create a new, accessible bathroom in the home of child with accessibility needs; Shine, a memorial sculpture at the B.E. Smith Family Center that honors the children of Britain Development that are no longer with us; and The Olivia Bloomfield Welcome Garden, a fully accessible music garden for children and families to play together. In partnership with KC Current, the Olivia Bloomfield Foundation honors both individuals and organizations in Kansas City bringing inclusivity forward through recognition at every home match. Other partnerships have included providing accessibility equipment and devices for Habitat for Humanity, Variety KC, and other organizations.
