2025 Ripple of Kindness Winner

In 2022 following the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, Sammie Magee created Sammie’s Toy Drive. 15 years old at the time, and a Cadette Girl Scout. she was called to help after seeing 10-year-old victim, Amerie Jo Garza, a Junior Girl Scout.

Since that horrible day, Sammie’s Toy Drive has provided over 300 Uvalde families with community events, a Christmas Angel Tree, and support to victim and survivor families. In February of 2024, Sammie’s Toy Drive led a project to provide the children that survived the Kansas City Chiefs Parade shooting with gift bags filled with toys.

The goal for the toy drive is to bring communities together, build connections across state lines, and to honor the 21 victims of Robb Elementary School one toy at a time.

Because of Sammie’s Toy Drive, she has had many opportunities to share the stories of the 21, and of the survivors. These opportunities have been within her church, Church of the Resurrection, many media stations within Kansas City and San Antonio, and on social media.

Sammie hopes to one day be planning the 40th annual Sammie’s Toy Drive event.

Along with the work within the toy drive, Sammie works alongside gun violence activists within Students Demand Action, and advocacy work with families. She is currently working with her Girl Scout council to become a Girl Scout Gold Award mentor to help guide other scouts while earning their award.

Even in death, the 21 victims from Robb Elementary are able to help and share their kindness, whether it be their own community of Uvalde, or Girl Scouts in Kansas City, or shooting survivors in other communities. on
