Mothers in charge-KC
2025 Ripple of Kindness Winner
Rosilyn Temple, Founder & Program Director of KC Mothers in Charge started the organization after losing her 26-year-old son, Antonio Thompson, aka Pee-Wee, on November 23, 2011, Thanksgiving Eve.
Born and raised in Kansas City, knowing that Kansas City had a violence problem, Rosilyn Temple never thought it would happen to her. Because no one was there for her to walk her through this process, she took her pain and grief and turned it into something positive in her community. To give back, to be there for the next mother or father, and the community who would be impacted by this violence.
In 2013, Rosilyn stepped into her purpose building relationships and fighting to stay alive without her son, Pee-Wee, and help other families going through this immense pain. She became KC Mothers in Charge. In 2014, she received her 501(c)(3) status and became a non-profit organization. Rosilyn had a lot of triumphs after being told that this organization would not make it. But she knew what God was telling her to do.
Rosilyn has dedicated herself to other families experiencing the same trauma. As Program Director, she ensures that KC MIC’s programs and services meet the immediate (and evolving) needs of these families. She is on call 24/7 to provide trauma-informed crisis intervention to families at homicide scenes; she serves as the liaison between family, police, and community. She provides immediate and longer-term support for families in the aftermath of a homicide. She also serves as the primary media contact for this organization.
