Kevin Birzer

Kevin Birzer is a cofounder and board member of The Giving Grove, a nonprofit organization that assists low-income communities across the United States in improving food security by developing ecological and sustainable tree gardens that transform neighborhoods and provide residents with healthy food choices.
Kevin cofounded TortoiseEcofin in 2002. TortoiseEcofin invests in energy and power infrastructure and the transition to cleaner energy. Kevin also cofounded one of its predecessor firms, Fountain Capital Management, a high-yield bond management firm, 35 years ago. Today Kevin serves as chairman of Tortoise’s closed-end funds and management company boards, is a member of the Executive Committee and remains involved in various investment committees.
Kevin started his career in 1981 and has more than 42 years of industry experience. His experience includes two years at KPMG Peat Marwick as a senior accountant, three years as vice president for F. Martin Koenig & Co., where he focused on equity and options investments, and three years at Drexel Burnham Lambert, where he served as vice president in the corporate finance department.
Through the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Kevin has also been involved in an effort to expand permaculture in Malawi to bolster food security through droughts and floods while improving nutrition in an environmentally friendly manner.
Kevin earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Business Administration from New York University. He is a CFA® charterholder.
